Description

Casi Divas is a Mexican musical comedy movie that was written by Ignacio Darnaude and Issa Lopez, who also directed the film. The movie features Patricia Llaca, Maya Zapata and Julio Bracho.The movie follows four very different women who are desperate to get a starring role in the feature adaptation of a popular novela called Maria Enamorada. Every character is invested with their emotions in this opportunity and there is a lot riding on it for their careers.The hopefuls include Francisca (played by Maya Zapata) who is a Zapoteca Indian who hails from the Oaxaca hinterlands. She comes from a well to do family with connections through her banker father's opulent lifestyle. Her life is filled with expensive beauty treatments, maids and guard dogs. As a result, she is quite spoiled and self-entitled.Catalina (played by Diana Garcia) is a lower class militant factory worker in from Cuidad Juarez. In that area, many women have no rights and are regularly murdered with no consequence. She bravely displays pictures of the women who have disappeared and could be dead. Yesenia (played by Daniela Schmidt) is a headlining dancer who is no stranger to celebrity. She spends time with her gay friends and has a great deal of support from her fans and the public. Her pedigree makes it clear that show business is in her soul and that it has always been comfortable for her.All of the women's family drama, romances, social struggles and dreams are displayed with a great deal of melodrama as they compete for the role of a lifetime. Eva becomes infuriated that a younger unknown could get the role and pulls out all of the stops to see that this does not happen. She blackmails the ex-boyfriend who is also a producer named Alejandro (played by Julio Bracho). He subsequently gives in and offers her the role under duress.
