Popcorn is a horror movie that pays homage to the B horror movies of the 1950s and 1960s. The film's main character, Maggie (Jill Scholen), is a film major who suffers from horrible nightmares involving some type of film festival and murder. As it so happens, Maggie's professor proposes that if the class will help put on a 1950s B horror movie film festival to help raise much-needed funding for the class, then he will agree to show their independent films during the festival. Maggie and her classmates eagerly agree and work diligently to prepare the theatre for the festival. During the course of their preparations they come across a film entitled 'Possession,' a film made by a cult leader named Lanyard Gates who made the film, a documentary of his attempts at human sacrifice in front of his followers.
