The Tin Drum

Description

The Tin Drum is a German war and black comedy film that was written by Jean-Claude Carriere and Franz Seitz, based upon the novel by Gunter Grass. Directed and co-written by Volker Schlondorff, the film features David Bennent, Mario Adorf, Angela Winkler, Daniel Olbrychski, Katharina Thalbach and Charles Aznavour. The story starts in 1899 with Oskar Matzerath (played by David Bennent). His grandfather is being chased by the police through rural Kashubia. Oskar gets a drum on his third birthday - a treasured item that he will keep most of his life. When Oskar hurtles himself down a staircase, he injures himself so that he never gets any larger.
