Description

The Wiz - is a revamped Broadway play, with an all African American cast. Directed by John Bedhan and Produced by Motown Productions in conjunction with Universal Pictures, the movie version was created. Its extravagance was the first of its kind, with a star studded cast of who's who, of African American entertainers. Diana Ross plays Dorothy a Harlem, New York, school teacher. Nipsey Russel plays The Tin Man who needs a heart and Michael Jackson sings and dances as the The Scarecrow. Lena Horne, star of film and stage is Glenda the Good witch and Richard Pryor comedian and actor is The Wiz. This cast brings this movie to life, with brilliance, glitz and glamour that the play version did not.
