Ever since the sequel to “Finding Nemo” was announced, one question has been popping up constantly. Will the sequel be as good as the first movie or will it let down all Nemo fans? It is a relief to see (and hear) that this follow-up has tons of emotional hooks, great lines, and is simply amazing despite the same plot as before.
What some see as the greatest disadvantage of the movie is the same plot current. This time, the action is taking place on the Pacific Coast of California instead of the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. But, think of it this way. The first movie is called “Finding Nemo” and this one is called “Finding Dory.” What did these people expect except the same adventure, but different characters? Good news is that this sequel is one of the few which received ratings as good as the original movie. Let’s compare these two this way; if “Finding Nemo” could be described as a blissful day at the beach, then “Finding Dory” is an afternoon full of adventures at an aquatic park. Or, better said the Marine Life Institute, where some events of the movie take place.
You may wonder how Dory, Nemo, and Marlin found themselves in California. If you remember the first movie, you may recall that Dory suffers from short-term memory loss. The irrepressible bright blue tang does not remember much of her childhood. She didn’t even know who her parents are. In “Finding Dory,” we can see the above-mentioned squad living happily on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Then, Dory starts having flashbacks that convince her she was born in California. Dory decides to go on an epic search which turns out to be much larger than the one in the movie’s predecessor. We won’t spoil anything else for you, let us just tell you that you should keep a handkerchief close by. Those who watched the movie claim that “Finding Dory” is an unforgettable emotional experience, as well.
The greatest feature of the movie would be the incredible voice performance. Reviewers claim that there has not been a better voice performance in an animated movie than Ellen DeGeneres’ in this wonderful sequel. Ellen DeGeneres surpasses even the legendary Robin Williams in “Aladdin.”
“Finding Dory” was a great success and it received mostly positive reviews from critics. And, believe it or not, the movie has grossed $477.2 million in North America and $423.5 million in other territories. When you add the numbers, the movie grossed a worldwide total of $900.7 million. These numbers make “Finding Dory” the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2016.
